Meet Our Lead Team
Team Church is an elder led church body. These elders serve the local body through teaching, discipleship, and leadership.
Dr. Jim Timmons was raised in Columbia, SC and was graduated from Davidson College. He received his MD degree from Duke University Medical School and spent 3 years in a Family Practice Residency in Flemington, NJ. After serving for 2 years in the Air Force in Cheyenne, WY, he began a medical practice in Kershaw in 1976. He and his wife Beverly have 3 children (and their spouses) and 11 grandchildren.
Jim has been a part of the formation of Team Church since it’s beginning and has served on the lead team from the start, also as the church treasurer and part of the leadership of the youth ministry. He has been active in community activities, working with Youth Serve for 25+ years, on the board of directors of the Kershaw Community Park Council, and is past president of the KARE Board of Directors.
He was raised in a Christian home but experienced a vital relationship with Jesus in 1969. He sees that as a lighthouse that serves to guide his life and ministry.
Steve Miller has served as the lead pastor of Team Church Kershaw since 2009. Every Sunday morning he relates creative Biblical messages that connect like a warm conversation. During the week, he serves as the senior chaplain at Kershaw Correctional Institution, ministering on both sides of the fences. Steve holds a Master of Divinity degree from Erskine Theological Seminary, Due West and enjoys playing and writing music in his spare time. Steve is married to Alison and has four children - Haven, Hannah, Jackson, and Maya.
Gordon lives in Kershaw with his wife, Olivia, and daughter, Salem as well as a fair number of dogs and a tailless cat. Gordon has been involved with Team Church since it began and was a member of the planting team.
He was raised in the Lutheran Church. His adult surrender to Christ happened after a sustained period of searching and questioning after college. He was baptized by Olivia prior to their marriage in 2003. He looks forward to being home one day with the Lord Jesus.
Gordon holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), where he graduated in 1997, with a degree in trumpet performance. He spent some years as a freelance trumpet player and part time teacher at music stores and local colleges. He went into teaching full time in 2013. Currently, he works at Chester Park Elementary School of the Arts in Chester, SC as a strings teacher. He occasionally plays out as a trumpet player.

"If anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it. - Titus 1:6-10 (ESV)

The role of elder is one we take seriously at Team Church. We believe in Scripture's charge from Titus and we work to hold each other accountable. We recognize perfection will not be found this side of heaven, but our elders strive to follow the Bible's teaching on discipleship and church discipline.
